Yes, you can! You can make the sweet potato mixture up to the step to the right before adding the pecans and marshmallows (step 4).

Once the sweet potato mixture has cooled and all the spices are well combined, add the mixture to the casserole dish and wrap tightly with plastic wrap.

If you make the sweet potato casserole 1 day in advance, you can refrigerate it until the following day.

The next day, bring the casserole dish to room temperature, top with the candied pecans and mini marshmallows, and bake!

If you make the sweet potato casserole more than 1 day in advance, you can store it in the freezer for up to 3 months. Make sure it is wrapped tightly in plastic wrap.

Alternatively, if you don’t have access to an oven at lunchtime, you can use a kitchen torch for the marshmallows.

Feel free to skip the candied pecans to go nut-free and/or substitute regular marshmallows with vegan marshmallows. You can also skip the marshmallows altogether and just use pecans or walnuts.

ADVANCE TIP: You can make the sweet potato mixture 1 day in advance, put it in a baking dish, cover the top with foil, then refrigerate until the next day. Before serving, bring the sweet potato mixture to room temperature, top with pecans/marshmallows, then place in the oven to bake for 15-20 minutes at 375ºF.

Friends, can we all gather together and get into this cake for a hot second?! I promise you while there are many sweet potato cakes out there… there is none like this. This cake is full of sweet potato flavor, super moist + tender, and topped with a brown butter glaze, amen. If you’re looking for some really lovely treats to make, look no further.

A pound cake is an old-fashioned, mostly southern dessert recipe that contains heavy ingredient ratios. For example: a pound of butter, a pound of sugar, a pound of eggs, and one pound of flour. This is a larger type of cake due to the weight of the ingredients; a true pound cake will have a thick buttery flavor, and a silky smooth texture. It’s a real delight.

Additionally, a bundt cake is usually baked in a loaf pan or classic bundt cake mold. For these images, I used a 10 inch fluted tube cake pan from BB&B. Pound cakes are also cakes that usually do not contain frosting and like other typical cake recipes. Instead they are often served as is, with a light dusting of confectioners’ sugar, with fresh fruit/whipped cream, or glaze/icing.

⇢ Grease/butter the pan – You will want to grease/butter generously to mold your bundt pan very well. Like even when you think you’ve done it well, go back and double grease every nook and cranny, and crevice. We want to release a flawless cake in the end.

⇢ Room temperature ingredients – The butter and eggs in this recipe need to be at room temperature. You need soft butter to cream together with the sugar. And the eggs need to be at room temperature to fit well within the batter and not curdle. I like to leave these out on the counter the night before baking or a few hours before.

⇢ Beat the butter/sugar well – You’ll want to cream these ingredients together very well until they have a light and fluffy texture, about 3-4 minutes.

⇢ Be careful when beating the eggs – Over beating the eggs can cause cracks within the finished texture of the cake. Always beat until each egg is combined and dissolved within the batter.

⇢ Alternate with the flour/buttermilk – This method involves gluten development. When you add the flour in stages with the buttermilk, the process allows the flour to bind with the fat (butter) and prevents gluten from forming when the buttermilk is added in >> gluten in a cake is any bueno.
