I wouldn’t change the buttermilk for the flavor and texture of this cake. However, you can make your own buttermilk at home.

To do this, you can substitute 1 cup of regular milk plus 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice for every cup of buttermilk.

Stir together and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, stir again and then add to the recipe and proceed. We do this a lot when we don’t have buttermilk on hand.

While Coca-Cola cake is a popular cake, some people don’t like its taste. However, you can replace it with Dr Pepper.
